Declaring Sovereignty Is A Right, Not A Reaction

After yesterday’s gruesome terror attack in Jerusalem, there have been increased calls to declare sovereignty across Judea and Samaria, and while this is understandable as a knee-jerk reaction, we should think carefully before we do so as some sort of “punishment” to our implacable foes.

The fact is, sovereignty over Judea and Samaria and even Gaza should never be a reaction to a security lapse or a political situation with overseas interlocutors, but rather a full expression of our moral right and covenantal bond with the Promised Land. We are the sovereign, because this is ultimately our Land. Not because the UN decided, but because the Almighty made a promise and we but have to execute on that promise to make it real.

However, the question arises that even after sovereignty, what will be different? True, there will be better roads, infrastructure, more housing, but if we don’t plant ourselves throughout the Land in a real way, those that have spent the last three generations squatting on it will continue to act to harm us.

Sovereignty is more than a declaration – it is the act of settling in and of itself – that is true Redemption – the redemption of Land.

Yesterday’s attack could be the last attack we see, but only if we decide to not only declare sovereignty, but to apply sovereignty in a true and meaningful way – not as a reaction, but as the completion of our return to the Land of our forefathers and the fulfillment of the Divine promise to the Jewish people.
