Recent headlines focused on President Trump’s blunt declaration regarding Israel’s military actions: “I call the shots. I call all the shots. He (Netanyahu) doesn’t call the shots.”
Such statements reflect the reality of international politics. Nations pursue their own interests. Even the closest allies often view the same conflict through very different lenses. The United States and Israel may stand together against common enemies, but they do not always share the same strategic priorities, timelines, or ultimate objectives.
For America, wars in the Middle East are often viewed through the prism of global diplomacy, economic interests, and regional stability. For Israel, the stakes are far more immediate and existential. Israel lives under constant threat from enemies who openly declare their desire to destroy the Jewish state. When missiles are launched, when terror organizations arm themselves on our borders, and when genocidal threats are made, Israelis do not have the luxury of distance.
Yet beyond the calculations of politicians and generals lies a deeper truth that has sustained the Jewish people throughout history.
The leaders of nations may believe they are directing events. Governments may claim to determine outcomes. Powerful individuals may think they control the course of history. But the Jewish people have always understood that there is a Higher Authority guiding the destiny of the world.
As King David taught thousands of years ago, ultimate sovereignty belongs not to presidents, prime ministers, or kings, but to the Master of the Universe.
History repeatedly reminds us that empires rise and fall, alliances shift, and political leaders come and go. Yet Am Yisrael endures.
As we once again find ourselves cleaning bomb shelters and preparing for uncertain days ahead, we remain confident and resolute. Our faith is not in human power alone.
עם ישראל חי וקיים.
The people of Israel live on, and with Hashem’s help, they always will.
